Every 1st Sunday of the month they organise a free tour in English. We were very lucky to be guided by Žiga, who was extremly knowledgeble and answered all (also probably stupid) questions.

Ενδιαφέρον μουσείο που εξιστορεί την ιστορία του σλοβενικού λαού από τις αρχές του 20ου αιώνα μέχρι και τα μέσα του 2000. Ωραίοι χάρτες που εξηγούν τα γεωπολιτικά δεδομένα κάθε εποχής. Κάποια σημεία είναι λίγο βαρετά, αλλά τα εκθέματα έχουν ενδιαφέρον. Πολύ πληροφορία είναι επίσης διαθέσιμη στους τοίχους. Όταν πήγα είχε και μια έκθεση φωτογραφίας στο ισόγειο από την εποχή του '60-'70.

It's a very interesting museum about the history of Slovenia in the 20th century. With the permanent exhibition you can see how Slovenia went throughout the past century starting from Austro-Hungarian empire, following by the period of the kingdom of Yugoslavia, WW2 and German/Italian occupations, Tito's Yugoslavia and finishing with the most recent history of its independence. The displays are very informative and interesting to read. The exhibits displayed in the museum are very impressive and allow you better immerse into the time periods. Highly recommended if you are interested to learn about the history of Slovenia.

i would recommend you to visit this museum. the price of the ticket is quite cheap and they have very good exhibitions. we came for the Olympics game 1984 in Sarajevo exhibition but we saw all of them.

As the museum covers the period from World War I to Slovenia’s EU entry, 1914-2004, it’s a lot of action crammed into one floor. They have an incredible amount of material on display that can get a bit overwhelming. I skipped the period of the first Yugoslav kingdom as well as the EU entry and still spent almost two hours there. My favourite parts were the section on WWI (with reconstructed trenches), and the partisan resistance to the Nazi occupation. Very touching objects made by concentration camp prisoners. The section about Yugoslavia under/after Tito was a bit too crammed for me, with so many topics on so little space you can only touch the surface. Still, it was a good way to learn about Slovenian history.
Some English texts I didn’t understand, might benefit from a professional language editing for accessibility.
Definitely recommended, but I would advise to pick a few aspects to concentrate on, or you might get overwhelmed. I don’t know how other commenters could ingest all that content in one hour.

Ein Museum für die jüngere Geschichte des Landes. Zahlreiche Exponate machen anschaulich, was Slowenien in den vergangenen rund 100 Jahren bewegt hat.
Der Abschnitt über Tito kommt merkwürdig unkritisch daher - das mag aber auch an meiner mangelnden Vorinformation liegen.

This is quite a fascinating museum if you have time to study, read, and contemplate. It is not a museum you can bustle through in 30 minutes. We spent a good two hours but we learned so much about what happened in Slovenia from War War I forward. The displays are written in English. There is seating throughout and the restroom is clean. We walked through Trivoli Park to arrive at the Palace where the museum is located. It was a fine way to cool off and wasn’t crowded. We also received Pensioner discounts. Recommend if you are interested in history. Not really a place small children would enjoy I’m my opinion. So be prepared to navigate stairs.
